Welcome to Granite Shoals, Texas, a quiet community on the shores of Lake Lyndon B. Johnson approximately 50 miles northwest of Austin. This city incorporated in 1966 in Burnet County. Granite Shoals real estate is in zip code 78654 and home to about 5,000 residents.

Shopping and Dining

Granite Shoals is a small community and most of the shopping is in neighboring Marble Falls or outlying Liberty Hill and Lakeway. Dollar General is a major retailer in Granite Shoals for food and sundries. Groceries are also found at the local Cracker Barrel.

The Hill Country Galleria in Bee Cave west of Austin is a popular shopping mall for residents of the Colorado river and Lake LBJ communities.

The Farm House Restaurant, "home of good cooking" has attracted local residents and celebrities for 47 years. This locally-owned Granite Shoals restaurant is located on Highway 1431 West in the heart of the Texas Hill Country. Good Mexican food is found at Taqueria El Mexicano.

Parks and Recreation

Granite Shoals real estate includes 18 parks with 16 of them along the jagged shoreline of Lake LBJ. Several of the parks offer public boat ramps in addition to camping and picnic facilities. Lake LBJ maintains a constant water level for people who enjoy lakeside living and water sports.

Boat and resort condo and cabin rentals are available at several of the parks, the Tropical Hideaway Beach Resort and Granite Beach. Boat storage facilities and marinas are located at other communities around the lake.

Fishing, water sports and boating are popular past times on the lake and Colorado River most of the year. Temperatures can reach 70 degrees F in winter and move up into the 90 degree range during the summer.

Tennis is popular year-round at the Quarry Parks. The Andy Roddick Youth Tennis Foundation, in partnership with the city, has built two covered adult size courts with professional surfaces. (Andy Roddick plays with the Austin Aces in World Team Tennis.)

Two Quick Start courts are available for children under the age of 10 who want to learn the game. This new Roddick International Tennis Center is the 19th park in the city and part of its Municipal Center.

The Quarry Parks area has 2.5 miles of hiking trails and a wildflower garden though a grant with the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department.


Granite Shoals real estate is comprised of approximately three square miles on a peninsula on Lake LBJ in the Texas Hill Country. The town's elevation is 860 feet above sea level. A good climate and lake setting has lead to the growth of the community.

The cost of living in this area of Texas is about 83% of the national average making it a desirable location for purchasing a home or vacation property. Median income for homeowners is about $31,000 and detached homes average around $221,000, depending on the location.

Employment in Granite Shoals is provided by the city government when openings are available. The school district in Marble Falls is also a major employer.

A waterfront three-bedroom, two bathroom home with 1,300 square feet can be purchased for under $300,000. The town's irregular shoreline affords several opportunities for water views even if the property is not on the water. There are a few large homes in the million-dollar category. Smaller homes and vacant land are part of Granite Shoals real estate. Property can be used for vacation homes and seasonal rentals since this is a lake resort area.

Schools, Health, and Transportation

The Marble Falls Independent School District provides public education for Granite Falls students. Elementary school students attend Highland Lakes school in Granite Shoals. Middle school and high school students travel eight miles to Marble Falls for secondary schools.

Many students in Granite Falls attend the University of Texas and other colleges in Austin, about an hour away.

Health services are located a short eight miles away at the Seton Marble Falls Health Center. This is a full service medical complex at 700 North Highway 281. The Seton Hospital is located in neighboring Highland Lakes.

Residents are also an hour's drive from major health care in Austin.

The major airports serving Granite Shoals and Lake LBJ are in San Antonio (SAT) about 60 miles southwest and Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) 45 files to the southeast. Both airports offer schedules flights throughout the United States. Austin also has an executive airport for private aircraft.
